The Pie Lady Queen of Sweet Potato Everything LLC is owned and operated by its founder Shirlene Hicks-Mullen. Her business is a home based fully insured and licensed by the Department of Agriculture and Markets.
She is a wife and a mother of three who began baking for friends and family, even giving away pies to elderly people at her church during the holiday season. At the urging of those who loved her pies, she took a leap of faith and received her Business Certificate from the Massachusett Avenue Project in 2001, completed the course Basic for Business Success at the Canisius College Women’s Business Center in 2007, inducted into Chapter 5037 of the American Business Women’s Association in 2009 and later founded a company that has been satisfying the palates of customers near and far for over two decades. Shirlene decided that other cultures needed to be introduced to her Sweet Potato Pies that she grew up eating during the holidays. In 2008 she entered Smokin’ On The Square Pie Contest sponsored by Smokin’ Eagles Barbeque Competition, a National pie competition in Douglas, Georgia where she won fourth place with her Nuts over Caramel Sweet Potato Pie.
Her recipe is a revised version that she has mastered making it a lighter and creamier version that doesn't make you feel guilty after eating one. Once you have eaten one of her Sweet Potato Pies you will be hooked for life. She also has a variety of specialty topped Sweet Potato Pies that she and her family created together. You won’t find them anywhere else.
Due to her love for sweet potatoes she has since offered other items that are sweet potato based, gluten free, vegan friendly along with her amazing Sweet Potato Hummus, her summer special Sweet Potato Salad and her Sweet Potato Pound Cake with Orange Glaze that has become one of her customers favorite item. She also offers Key Lime Pies and Cheesecakes. All of her pies can be purchased in full size or personal size. She also has an even smaller size for catering. Her cake can be purchased by the slice or full size.
In the past she has baked and donated to the Carolyn House in Niagara Falls, New York and the Buffalo City Mission. She loves interacting with people therefore selling her pies at The North Tonawanda City Market for over 20 years gives her and her husband great satisfaction.
